Adding to your tip about breaking down a sentence: I tend to find it helpful, when a sentence is especially complicated, to just get to the end of the paragraph/section it’s in and go back! Sometimes there is more context later on that makes the sentence cohere in a way that it doesn’t on its own. Also, in Deleuze and Guattari’s intro to A 1000 Plateaus, they say the book should be read like listening to a record—experiencing it as a kind of flow, tapping in when something pulls you in but also checking it out. I’ve found that advice useful for particularly vibey theory books (the D&Gs, the Glissants, the Fred Motens, etc.) ❤️

Wow, I absolutely loved this, thank you so much. Caliban and the Witch: Women, the Body and Primitive Accumulation has been on my list for some time now, I am so interested in the book club you shared!! I am wondering if you're familiar with Johanna Oksala? She did an excellent interview with New Books Network last summer about her book Feminism, Capitalism, and Ecology. And she works from a Marxist feminist perspective, and also explores stepping out of a gender binary while also recognizing that a majority of people giving birth are cis-women, but not all, which is crucial to recognize (she talks about gestational surrogacy and the role of human reproduction in capitalism). Seeing that you quoted Federici as saying "natural resource" re: contributions to/participation in the economy being not recognized connects w/ what Oksala talks about. I am looking forward to reading Oksala's book soon, the interview was just wonderful. Here it is on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bU7czCNiLqg
